Consensus Building for a More Civil Society presented by Rose Stoller
In this session, we will work to understand the nature of consensus-based decision-making, the importance of a facilitator to group decision-making, and the importance of establishment and adherence to ground rules for discussion.
We will also hear about the work of the Consensus Council, a non-profit organization that custom-designs processes, bringing diverse viewpoints together to seek common ground from local to international levels.
Consensus Council services include: keeping the discussion comfortable for dialogue among all participants, yet focused on the issue at hand, providing expert documentation for the development of agreements,working to ensure that when an agreement is built, it is clearly understood, and assisting organizations in evaluating current programs, monitoring for progress and creating suggestions for existing institutions, services or structures. They also provide small, medium and large organizations with strategic planning for the future.
Lunch is available for purchase in the Mystic Café. Please feel free to bring it with you to the Alumni Room, lower level of BSC's Student Union.

About Rose:
Rose has experience in process design, facilitation, programming, implementation, legislative and public policy initiatives, community conversations, program evaluation, and advocacy. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Mary.
Rose has past experiences as Executive Director of the Mental Health Association in North Dakota. She also worked with the ND Department of Human Services, graduated from the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber Leadership program, is past Chair of the Bismarck Human Relations Committee, served on many governing and policy boards statewide and regionally. She is a founding member of the North Dakota Women’s Network and active in the League of Women Voters.
