Why do people forget what we cover in training?  Join us as we explore the challenges surrounding retention of information and how to combat them.  You will leave with tips and techniques to use in your own trainings including getting past the bouncer at the door, tapping into the way people listen, using the power of choices in learning, turning the tables on assessment, and more.

Sheila Borgerding

Sheila Borgerding is an Instructional Designer at Discovery Benefits, where she works with subject matter experts to collaboratively design a variety of courses.  Prior to working at Discovery Benefits, Sheila provided business consulting and coordinated trainings for the West Central Minnesota Small Business Development Center hosted by Concordia College.  She also worked at FirstLink as the Volunteer Center Director, where she provided training for volunteer coordinators at various nonprofits and oversaw flood volunteers.  Sheila has a Masters in Organizational Leadership from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, Winona and a Bachelors degree in Global Studies from Concordia College in Moorhead. She serves on the Better Business Bureau Advisory Committee, enjoys playing on a kickball league, and loves to travel, especially to Ireland and Norway.

Laura Sroufe

Laura Sroufe is a Corporate Learning and Development Trainer at Discovery Benefits who works out of the company’s Brookings, South Dakota location. In her role, Laura equips new employees across the organization with the foundational information critical to their success. Prior to broadening her focus in this corporate trainer role, Laura was a trainer for Discovery Benefits participant services department. Laura has a passion for helping others to grow personally and professionally. She is known across the company for her creativity and warmth as well as her willingness to try new things for the sake of helping herself or others learn.  During her free time she enjoys reading and spending time with family.
